  • Any nice recipes for a bucket of cherry tomatos

    Just picked a bucket full.
I can only eat so many.
    I could give some away.

Any ideas , perhaps chicken based but not necessarily.

    Thanks
    Jimmy

Cook and freeze as sauces or soup.

    Chutney.

I cut toms up laying them on an oven tray drizzle with olive oil add garlic, basil and oregano then put in the oven for around 30 mins. They're nice on toast, stirred in pasta, added to stews and they also freeze well.
      Location....East Midlands.

We used to freeze stuff, but as the wife says we just end up with a freezer full of not used stuff!
        Perhaps a big pasta dish.
        Thanks

          Do you like sundried tomatoes?
Pasta sauce, or tomato based curry or chilli if you like spicy?
Soup - roasting first gives a different, and in my view better, flavour.
Probably could do a chutney if you still have some left?

Alternatively if you don’t fancy cooking on a hot day like today, hand them out to passing motorists - from what I have heard about traffic in preston today, they will be going slowly enough to pass tomatoes through the car window as they drive!

I bought a food mill for around £15
Boiled a big pan of toms for 15 mins or so.
            And milled them when cool.
It worked great, not many seeds , no skins and lots of sauce.
Took about 4 sessions to mill a big pan.
Reboiled with some basil from garden.
            So plans are
            Some tomato soup from it
            And pasta with meatballs.
            Definitely recommend food mill

Jimmy I agree with you about removing seeds and skin it does make a difference. I use a kenwood chef sieve to get rid of mine.

Get some of those puff pastry sheets, slice toms in half, add olives, parmesan cheese and olive oil. Either freeze flat and stack or oven bake.

Got one for my major from that well known auction site, but like most things on there need to hide your time to find one at the right price

I bought this one last year and absolutely love it, I just roast the tomatoes in the oven with shallots, garlic, herbs and a bit of salt and proper, then put them through the mill to make passata which I put up in jars for the winter.
