  • Courgettes producing petal-less flowers

    Hi,

Can anyone help me and explain why my courgettes are producing petal-less flowers? I've attached a picture

In the beginning, they produced normal flowers but now they are deformed. I am using fertiliser, watering twice a day

I'm not sure....but the plant looks good and courgettes are forming fine so I wouldn't worry too much.
      What variety is it?

That's interesting, never seen that before.

The genetics of double-petalled flowers is quite well understood, so I wonder if this could be another genetic variation/mutation.

This is speculation, but based on some understanding of genetics. I'm wondering if your plant has a zero-petal variation instead of the more common standard petals, or double-petalled variations you get with some flowers.

Although you say there were normal flowers to start off with, so a more simple explanation might be more likely. I don't know, are there any pests, slugs or whatever that particularly like courgette flowers?

Or even any wildlife that wouldn't normally eat them, but are desparate for any moisture at the moment if there are no other sources of water.

It is strange, I don't think it's a bug or bacterial/fungal problem. Maybe a lack of mineral in the soil had caused it to grow these petal less flowers.
