  • Cherry - new shoots dieing

I have a 'Stella' cherry which is fan trained on some trellis. It started off fine this year, but all the new shoots have started dieing back, and there is some gum ooze on the trunk. Some cherries appeared earlier in the year, but have subsequently gone brown. It was planted about 2 years ago, and is about 4 years old.

Last year I wasn't around earlier in the year and by the time I got to it (early July) it was doing the same thing.

It does have a problem with cherry black fly, but I'm not convinced this is causing the the shoots to die, so wondering if anyone can offer any suggestions about what is going on. I've been giving it a decent amount of water over the last few weeks.

    Thanks!

Doesn't look terrible - make sure it has got plenty of water and give it a foliar feed of liquid seaweed sprayed on at the strength recommended on the bottle.

Let us know how it goes after a few days please and hopefully things will get better - unfortunately if it does have some sort of systemic infection, then its unlikely to be curable.

Thanks nickdub, I'll give it a go and report back in a week or so.
