  • Which end do grape vines grow from?

Odd question I know but IV just fed mine into the green house.

I'd like to know if the tip gets longer, or dose the vine push out from the base of the plant.?

Ie as the vine grows will I need to keep pulling more and more of it into the greenhouse or will it just get longer from the tip only?

    Many thanks

It will do both but keep it to the one stem/rod that you have already fed into the greenhouse. Any more and there won’t be room for you!

It gets longer from the tips only - though obviously the vine will thicken at the base and along the length of the rod as the plant gets bigger, like a tree in fact.

The vine I planted last spring is extending from the end of the cane, where it was pruned back to in the winter. It also grew a whippy stem from about 4ins above soil level. It was 3ft high before I noticed it Needless to say it has now been pruned off, as I'm trying to train the vine as a single branch down one side and across the back of the greenhouse.

So yes, you can get new growth from the base, which will either need pointing inside, if you want the new branch, or cutting off if you don't
