If you don't have it...
If you don't have it then the committee become personally liable for some stuff. It is a dangerous position to put committee members in, where there is blame there is a claim brigade are alwas looking for someone to sue.
If you are NSALG members then you are automatically covered - worth the £3 per member. Also covers individual plot holders.Comment

My former allotment's PL insurance covered for plotholders and friends together on site. Funded through £10 yearly committee fee, covered public for 1 or 2 days/events a year.
Sometimes ppl wanted to come without the plotholder, an additional £5 per year optional fee as an "associate member" was offered so they could have an additional key, voting rights and the insurance when on site without the plotholder.
In the rare case s/o didn't pay the committee fee they were still insured but the committee wouldn't deal with them.
Things do happen, especially if u know u have plotholders who can't act like adults.
I had a scary experience with a stranger who stood in the middle of my plot and wouldn't leave. Plotholder let him in against rules. He kept coming back jumping the fence looking for another plotholder. Turned out he had mental issues. Have managed to get our PLI paid by Council. £80 for 34 plots for personal cover, does not include open days, exhibitions etc. Not a problem as we do not plan any.Insurer Total Insurance.Comment
