  • Weed of the Day - nutty idea

Introducing a different way of weeding.
Don't know what you do, but I try to weed an area completely, then move on to another area. However, as you know, I'm easily sidetracked and flit about a bit achieving very little!
I have a plan to make weeding more fun (my life isn't very exciting ).
First job - make a list of all the common weeds in the garden eg nettles, docks, dandelion, buttercup etc.
    Choose one weed a day.
Grab a big trug or a wheelbarrow and fill it with that weed and don't stop weeding until its full. No sidetracking, tangentising or stopping to look at pretty flowers or insects or rainbows or passing helicopters.

At the moment, I'm compiling my Weed list - its long!
I may make it more of a game with some sort of random selection of the weed of the day - to be chosen at breakfast time.

    OK, I'm nuts.

And then on a Friday you plant weeds with tap roots, on a Wednesday you can sow viney/creepy weeds and Mondays are for propagating weeds that throw out loads of seeds. But only at 2:27 in the after noon. At 2:28 you have to stop and hop away from the bed backwards.

Is it nutty that I already play this game but without the list? I also factor weather in to it - after rain is good for weeds with long tap roots!
        Another happy Nutter...

That's not such a daft idea!
Before you spray a single thing,
sit down and read the silent spring.

VC, knowing some of your plant list there's a good chance that you have actually intentionally sown some of the things on your weed list at one time of another.

I leave certain wild plants in certain areas to help the wild life that depends on it, clear conscience up here lol.
ps you can also eat a lot of 'em

Hmm. Sounds good in principle but... are you not making life easier for the weeds you've left behind by removing the competition? If that's the case, aren't the unweeded weeds just going to be more work to weed when you get around to them? More bulk, deeper roots, more likely to seed...

I don't want to sound too sensible, mind.

Whilst i accept that its emotionally satisfying to eat weeds most of the ones ive tried will be reserved for post apocalyptic nutrition. I do save a few for my sons to add to their kale smoothies.
