I need to get something to aerate my wildlife pond,it would have to be solar as we have no electricity down the bottom of the garden where the pond is.I've been looking online for a few days and my head is spinning,I'm even more confused and don't know what to get.Has anyone got a solar oxygenator.I was looking at the floating ones but I'm happy to get whatever works best.

The pond was amazing for many years but eventually leaves fell in as our trees matured and ruined the water.We had lots of oxygenating plants but they died,I bought more last year and they died.We've cut down a couple of offending sycamore branches and I've been in the pond getting leaves out.Also duckweed hasn't helped.This year I'm on a mission to rescue the pond and have it looking great again.My plan is that once the pond is aerated for a few weeks with a pump I'll get more oxygenating plants and will put netting over it in the autumn for a few weeks to catch leaves.There are so many pumps and the reviews are variable.Comment

OK I'm with you - I've got no experience of pumps so can't help on that front, sorry.
Presumably it would be too much work to completely clear out everything from the pond - fill it up with rainwater and start from scratch ?Comment

No experience of pumps either, but if you're not having luck with bunches of oxygenators, maybe try plants that do the same job? Shamelessly promoting the company I work for, because I see how well they treat their plants and customers

I found a really good company called Powerbee who specialise in solar things for the garden.I had a query,emailed them and shortly after they phoned and we discussed my pond and he gave really good advice.They seem to know all about ponds.I've bought an oxygenator,he suggested that first and then emptying the pond and starting again.That's a big job and we couldn't do it for another month as we have a lot of work to do in the garden.I would recommend them if you need advice about ponds and aerating them.Thanks Sarriss,I'll have a look at your website.I plan on getting some plants once the oxygen levels go up.We used to have loads of oxygenating plants but they died ,also water mint which I really likedComment

Hi, I've noticed some of the plants in my pond, particularly the floating oxygenating weed that I bought, is being colonised by what I presume is blanket weed, a green fuzz that envelopes everything...
Will a pump help move water around and stop this stuff form spreading?He-Pep!Comment

I got a solar oxygen ator from Powerbee and it's excellent,would recommend.The man I spoke to on the website was extremely helpful and gave some good advice.Our pond is looking more clean and alive with many more insects on or near the water.Soon I'll get some more pond plants and oxygenating plants .I was reading one of the other threads about pond netting trapping other creatures.I need to put something over in the autumn to catch the leaves but will use something different.Comment

I have tried the small solar pumps via Amazon, usually retail for approx £25. Square solar panel with spike, pump and air stones. Both kits failed within 8 months. Never bothered to chase the retailer on warranty as the price was insignificant.
Just ordered a PowerBee. Hopefully more robust.
