    Mourning My Polytunnel and Procrastinating About a Greenhouse!

    We moved house and have nowhere to put my 16x14 polytunnel, mainly because we have a host of badgers in the garden. Bottom of the garden leads into a wood - its awesome. But I am so missing the PT!

    So, we are looking at a sturdy greenhouse. It's quite an outlay and I am faffing about on where to buy. I'm looking at a 12x14. I'd like toughened glass but we have grandchildren so worried about that.

    Can anyone give advice about where to go to buy and pro's and cons on glass versus polycarbonate. I feel like nothing will be as good as the PT which was my happy place.

    My budget is around £1500. Week.

    Have you thought of trying a slightly different construction ? Its possible to make a greenhouse out of poly-carbonate panels arched over a wood frame (flat panels are bent are bent in to place at the top).

    If you have a few tools and some DIY skills I reckon you could do the whole thing for around £1000. Much stronger and longer lasting than a Poly-tunnel but cheaper and easier to build than a glass-house.

      Hi Judy - welcome back. Your garden sounds enchanting!
      Are the badgers the only reason why you can't use your PT? If so, could you put extra fencing around it to keep the badgers away?
      I don't know how badgers behave when faced with a PT or a GH?

            Let us know how you work it out if you get a chance please - I'm relatively new to poly-tunnels so information is useful, even if it is just what doesn't work. :-)

              I can recommend the Rhino greenhouses as being very well built and reasonably priced

                Hello again - still undecided and doing my napper in!

                I found this today - polycarbonate greenhouse in the shape of a poly tunnel. (I have emotional attachment issues to my previous PT!)

                    Hey Judy.
                    As Nick says if someone has diy skills then id seriously consider poly carbonate.
                    I built myself a 10 foot by 8 foot gh with poly and i managed to scrounge a lot of the wood from euro pallets, in total i think i paid out about 200 squids, time consuming yes, cheaper yes, prouder when you say " i built that " hell yea .

                    All down to how soon you want that greenhouse i guess, plenty of time to plan for next season.
