    Buttercup - probably meadow buttercup.

      I've never seen it on my plot before. I did plant some oriental poppy's last year but they never showed. That's why it's making me think it could be that.

      Not a huge fan of butter

        The leaves remind me of California Poppies ( Eschscholzia ) be able to tell once the flowers open

            Thanks for the offer Scarey but I have plenty. Been digging up creeping buttercup all day.
            Did you play that childhood game with buttercups? Holding a flower under someone's chin and asking "Do you like butter?".
            If the yellow reflected on their skin, they liked it.

              I think the flower buds on escholzia are much more pointed.

                Escholzia buds as mentioned are pointy, my money is on buttercup.

                  OH has just informed me that last year he threw some seeds down where that plant is now and they didn't grow and it was the year before last when he chucked oriental poppy seeds down there that didn't grow.

                  All I know is I have never seen that plant on my plot before.
