  • Gladiolus murielae

I've ended up with some of these bulbs in a mixed bag of stuff. They look pretty but reading around they appear to be quite tender. They appear to be able to be grown in summer as long as they're lifted and stored frost free over winter. Has anyone had any success with growing them? Also has anyone managed to grow them in pots with any success?

I know them as Acidanthera and I grow them in big pots, left outside all year round. They flowered last year (2nd year).

I've tried twice, bringing the pots into the greenhouse each winter. They look lovely the first year, but didn't grow a 2nd year

Whereas Gladiolus byzantinus were planted once in the border and come back every May, increasing year on year.

That'll be them VC, they appear to want quite sandy soil, I can't decide between putting em in a big pot or digging out a large hole and making a patch of free draining soil (mixing sand in with my soil) and risking them in Lancaster (we're quite exposed on top of a hill but only about a mile from the coast)
