  • Loganberries - Cuttings or Seeds?

Neighbor has a Loganberry plant and I'm wondering would the best way to go with this be via a cutting or start from seed?

    TIA

Cuttings - mine tiproot when I'm not looking so see if you can poke a cane down into a pot and leave it for a while to root.

Cuttings is definitely quicker, and they come true to the mother plant. I don't know if seeds from a berry would (I know apples don't, but no idea if the same applies to berries)

technically neither - as has been said they root easily if the tip of the new years growth is pegged or weighted down to the soil in late Summer, just like blackberries do . This method of propagation is a type of layering - the new plant can be severed from the parent in Spring

I just cut a 12inch long tip off, bung it in a bucket with just the top 4ins uncovered and put the pot in the shade so it doesn't wilt. Within a couple of months they have usually rooted.

I've done it when the buds were just opening in spring - hence shade required, through summer and also took some in the Autumn. Both lots rooted ok Just make sure the spring ones don't dry out.
