  • Pallet Wood - Weather proofing

I built bean supports out of Pallet Wood 4 years ago and did not weather proof them.

I noticed this year that the wood looked sad and worn.

In comparison the tomato supports I built and weather proofed are still in good condition.

So for anyone building with pallet wood, it's worth the effort to weather proof it.

Agreed Jonny.D and also there are pallets and pallets. Some are pre treated with nasty chemicals to withstand/allow use in food warehouses. Others are just softwood of whatever timber was in the way of the foresters getting to the valuable stuff, while yet others are made of something from the Oak species and have a decent life in cantact with the soil, they are however the hardest to dismantle!
Having taken the time and trouble to dismantle and rebuild it makes sense to protect even with cheap fence paint. I wish I had taken my own council on a couple of projects that will need rebuilding one day in the future.
