  • Wish me luck!

I have my first official gig tonight.

Practical seed saving - a talk by yours truly for a local hort soc.

It's a 75 min slot (SEVENTY-FIVE MINUTES!!! Ye gods!!) and I have a stammer when nervous. (I might be quite a bit nervous right now) Am on really strong antibiotics so I can't have a spine-stiffner before going on.

Around about 7.50pm I would dearly love to feel some positive vibes coming my way.

    You'll be fine
Just chat to them as you would to us, in fact imagine that we're there listening.

Don't forget, Sparrow's can always wing it.

Oh my goodness, I would just love to be there. I've got quite a lot of new things on my plate this year, but seed saving is the next thing I want to get to grips with.

You'll be great. You know your subject, you're used to communicating it (in writing in your great blog) and you're a nice person. All the attributes you need for winning your audience over. Plus, they wouldn't be there if they didn't want to be. So they're already on your side.

Will be thinking of you and sending you positive vibes, as requested. I'd wish you good luck, but I doubt you'll need it.

      Hope it goes well.

start with the bit you like best about saving seeds and if you get stuck at some point, ask for questions - don't forget to take a visual prop with you which might elicit the odd laugh - I'd plump for a coconut myself :-)

        Break a leg ...

          good luck!

I find just practising the opening lines beforehand really helps. Once you've got started well, it's usually plain sailing.

And there's lots of other advice out there, but just remember they are there to hear what you've got to say, and are on your side

If you feel intimidated by the crowd, imagine them naked (said to work for job interviews too)!

If you remember to smile once in a while you will get you message across more effectivly.

Any practical things like a jar you might collect things in, a sieve to clean the product or demonstration of winnowing to clean the seed might be appreciated. Passing objects around takes time and gets you and them up close and friendly.

Most importantly remember you love seed saving and they have come to hear someone talk about seed saving because they are interested, it can't be that hard.

I'm sure it will go very well and a great many people will enjoy it, just remember to be one of them ;-)

Best wishes for your inaugural gig, positive vibes are on thier way at this very moment.

I have faith in you and am sure once you get into it the time will go before you know it. Just keep a bottle of water handy for any dry or awkward moments

You are a girl of many talents - you'll be fine!

You’ll be alright. All of the above advice and another from me. Pick a couple of friendly faces in the audience and talk to them as if they were the only ones there. It’s then just like holding a conversation. Good luck and enjoy it.

                          You'll "Be Reet Lass"

Having had to do a few million presentations in the past, knowing your subject, which you clearly do, is clearly the key!

Take a deep breath! and enjoy expressing your knowledge!

Ever been asked by a passing motorist for a direction to somewhere, and you get all exited because you know where it is and can help out!

                          Your in the same boat!

                          Go "Knock ya socks off"

                          You'll be fine!
