  • From Freezing To Go, Go, Go!

    Hi all,

I have grown some leeks and spring onions on the windowsill with the intention of planting out. They are now around 2-3 inches tall. (most still have the seed on the plant head). Wondering whether I can just plant these straight out now that the weather has warmed up, maybe with a bit of hardening off this week, should I pot them on, or something else?

I'd pot them on to be gradually hardened off if they were mine. No one can say how the weather will go, you might be fine planting them out now, but I wouldn't risk it.

Thanks Nick. When you say pot them on, would you put one single leek or onion in one pot/compartment?

With the spring onions I always plant them out in clumps.
          They find their own space.
I hadn't grown leeks so can't advise you on that.
I wouldn't plant out your spring onions just yet, they're a bit small and the weather is a bit cool.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
