  • Help naming a cake please!

Many moons ago I was a student in Coventry and I used to buy a piece of cake which was basically a square piece cut from a tray bake.
it was about 2" deep and was a bit like a cross between a bread and butter pudding and a raisin sponge cake.
very heavy and sprinkled with sugar if I recall correctly.

Is anyone able to give it a name?....I sort of fancy making some, so I need a name to find a recipe!

the only name i can come up with is NONONO,there used to be something similar to what you describe,i was led to believe it was made from what was left from the day before,a bit like a bread pudding.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was made up of left overs.....maybe a bit cinnamonny if I recall correctly?

You know...that looks more like it!

I suppose different shops would adapt the recipe slightly wouldn't they?

You didn't believe me, did you?
My Mum used to make Bread Pudding with stale bread and milk and fruit. We didn't have Bread and Butter Pudding as buttered bread was too good to be leftover.
I used to have a slab of it to take to school.

Nelson's Square? My gran used to make this.

Edited to say: or maybe not, by the look of it.

^^^^^alas nope, but that looks very interesting!

I 'pretty sure it's bread pudding now.

I just found this explanation about the difference between bread and butter pudding and bread pudding.
The bread pudding recipe in this sounds very, very similar!
