  • Premier Seed

    Morning all...

I just wanted to post this....Someone asked if Premier Seed was any good?

At the time I could not answer, as I had just sent for a seed order...nothing big £5 ish
today I had my seeds come through the door....3 days.....and a £60 wine voucher for a wine company.

We all know the saying....a sprat to catch a mackerel....but if you are a wino, and saving a few quid, then why not.

Did you read the small print on the wine voucher???
There's no such thing as a free bottle of wine!

I got a similar offer this week. 8 free Craft Beers, just pay P&P...

      Small print .... You are signing up to ..... £24 + P&P / month (£30)

equated to £11:36 /litre, 2.6l or just over 5 pints.

The subject was....Are Premier Seeds any good....from my experience very good.

The fact that a voucher for £60 at a wine store is immaterial.

To add I did say......... a sprat to catch a mackerel

The question "Are Premier Seeds any good? " may have meant the quality of the seeds, viability and so on, not how soon do they deliver.
          Just guessing.

I bought quite a few seeds from them.

My strawberries have had an excellent germination rate, vastly surpassing the rate from the Johnson's seeds I also used.
Only three of roughly 60 red vein sorrel seeds I sowed have germinated but I think that's my fault as I kept them too damp.

I have just sown some cornflowers from them yesterday, but nothing else yet. I can update as I sow more.

I used to use them, but had low germination rates with everything, I now use simply seeds and no problems

I've bought quite a lot of seed from them over the past year - vegetable and flower - and have had 80-100% germination rate. Mostly foil packets.
The only hiccup was some gherkin seed; they all germinated, but the fruit ended-up being white instead of green, but it wasn't something that bothered me.

Lots of comments about this company over a few years on its own thread here:

I think you can also go to them direct (without using ebay) here:

                      Maybe I should not have bothered even starting this thread as it has opened loads of issues;
                      Germination....
How old is the seed stock?
How many of us PH are soil before planting?
How many of us plant in Peat based compost?
How many of us know that peat is acid and can kill the seedlings (burn the roots) ?

How many of us buy underpants from Harrods at £20 and others from Lidl two for £5 ?

                      Have a good day all

Let them know. Then can then test the batches and if their tests don't meet their standards they will refund and sort their stocks. However, if you don't tell them they won't do anything and someone or several someones will suffer the same fate.

I have let them know and there standard reply on eBay is lab tested and 96% viability!

                            Did get a refund

I would encourage people to start threads that might start 'issues' - why not?
Gets a conversation going, different things come up.
                              Might be a problem.
Might be a solution to a problem.
