  • Recommend me a heavy cropping cordon cherry tom

Can anyone recommend me a good cordon cherry tom - heavy cropping, earlyish, and preferably yellow or orange? Oh, and not Sungold, I'm bored of it!

    Board!............board? What ???
To be fair I've been very late to the sungold party
last year was my first years growing it.
Only other cherry I grow is sweet baby but that's definitely red.
    Sorry can't help.

      Yes, it's called Sungold.
You won't get a better early cropping tomato.
Good flavour, plentiful crop, early season.
What's to be bored about this tomato?

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

One of Trips favourites - Goldkrone. A yellow cherry?
Or Deanos Rosella....but that isn't orange or yellow
I like black toms myself so my choice would always be black cherry.

Black cherry toms , that’s one to try next year. Then again, I wonder if I can find the space this year. I like the colour black, although it’s technically a non-colour.

Good to know, as I’m growing Sungold for the first time.

I'd go for Black cherry as well, they're the sort of tom you don't leave the GH without eating a couple

Sungold is actually too sweet for me I prefer my toms with a bit of acid to them as well

Try growing Jaune Flamme - It is lovely, honestly!

I grew Jaune Flamme last year.. it was really nice, but not heavy cropping. Toms struggle up here, even in a polytunnel.

                    Bario! Try "Yellow Perfection"

An early variety and very prolific plants and the fruit is lovely.

                    One I grow every year.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm still deciding which to try, but in the meantime, panic-bought a pack of 'Ildi' from Homeb@se... they're in the heated prop now. Supposed to be a very heavy cropper, anyone grown it before?

Bario I've found a few of threads mentioning Ildi toms, hope this helps.

I grow Ildi. It’s extremely heavy cropping, the fruits grow in enormous clusters, quite different to the usual trusses. It’s a very decorative plant and not as rampant as some. The flavour isn’t as good as Sungold though. Sweet Million is the only one I’ve found that is a better all rounder than Sungold, I also like Emerald Cherry.

I've grown Ildi too and am going to have them again this year. Enormous crops on about 4-5 clusters in my greenhouse. Their flavour goes to just sweet very quickly so you need to be on your toes to get them at their tart best.

I prefer black cherry and sweet aperitif - neither are yellow though so I know that doesn't really answer your initial question.
