  • Cherry fruit fly - options?

So Spring is coming and I have an early cherry tree growing in the grassy area of the garden. How do people stop the cherry fruit fly from destroying their crop? After last years harvest was mostly killed by the late frost, I figure the flies may be less of a problem this year, so now would be a good time to try and keep their numbers down?

What sort of flies, do you mean the black aphids that feed on the new growth?

It's the Ines that result in each cherry having a small white maggot in them.

I saw a couple of tiny caterpillar type bugs on my dads cherry tree last year, the birds probably like having a little bug inside the cherry when they eat all of them.

Have you got a grease band at the bottom of the trunk, some moths climb up having overwintered in the ground?

I'll have grease bands yes. Someone last year said they were cherry wasps, but I think that may just be another name for the same thing. I notice some people paint the trunks and branches with something white, perhaps that's for the same problem?

              Is this the pest? https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=852
Seems to be quite new to the UK.

Could be. Every fruit has a small hole and a worm inside. I'm in France.

I know you're in France - what I mean is that not many of us in the UK may have experience of it yet.
