Bay tree cuttings problems

Also the main tree the cuttings came from has little white, what look like seeds, slightly smaller than a coriander seed.
Could they be seeds ?
Would they grow OK ?

Best to give the cuttings from shrubby stuff like this at least 1 year undisturbed - the easiest test is to look for new growth on a cutting, once you see that, then its safe to pot them on.

A photo would help with the other part of your question.

they do take a long time to get going. I've got one in the greenhouse for over a year. the leaves are still green and live, but it's not grown at all.

I've done one before that worked. what I do is look for a shoot coming up from underground and try to follow that back as far as I can in the hope of getting some roots

Is the parent tree yours? I have always found the best way to propagate with bays is to layer branches if possible.

Yes I have the parent tree. Here is a picture of it with suspect seeds.

Yes I asked previously when I took the cuttings.
But got a picture now.
Is my tree female or male , how can you tell ?
Will the cuttings be the same ?
How can I get the opposite gender.

No idea about your questions, sorry. My tree has yellow flowers and the trees I've grown from cuttings have been the same.

I took cuttings a few years back and 1 survived and has roots, well it did have the last time I looked - odd it has not grown any bigger then the original cutting. But nice green leaves, just still the same 8 inch thing I started with.

Decided to try another about a year later and it hasn't yet died, but has sort of done nothing, still alive, still has the 2 or 3 original leves on and they are not dead or green - kind of midway. Been like that for 2 years.

All others died.

The seeds will/may germinate but not sure what you would get. Bay is part of the laurel family and they are often poisionous. If those seeds are from a laurel then no guarantee on what transpires. I also suppose that even if self pollinated then genetically they could easily diverge.

If the presumption is that seeds off a bay tree produce a 100% matching bay tree I would be doubtful.
