  • Hello from the South East of Northumberland

Hello everyone. Just a quick note to say hello. I am a 35 year old trying his hand at his first allotment.

I have had my "starter garden" since September. It is roughly 35m long by 5m wide. It was an overgrown mess and I have half of it ready for this year. A shed and a greenhouse has also been added.

The plan is to try and grow veg and fruit that I enjoy eating.

I do have a blog on WordPress that I am keeping to keep track of all that I have done. All photos and no videos as I am not that confident filming myself.

I decided to try an allotment because my mam and grandad were both "growers" and that generated my interest. Sadly they are both no longer on this earth but hopefully the memories will be strong of when I helped them. They have so far.

So I hoping to get a warm welcome and able to digest some helpful and useful advice. Constructive criticism is always welcome too.

What a beautiful part of the country Northumberland is. Had some great holidays as a kid, north of where you are. What a cold sea! But what beaches!

Anyway, welcome to the Vine. Enjoyed reading your blog. Hope you have a great growing year.

            Hello

I like your potting table. Where did you get it? I'm pretty much just plonking a bin-bag down on the dining room floor currently!

Never mind! Happened to pop into Aldi this evening and there it was

Sadly, I think they will be sold out before I have got over the bug I have and am well enough to carry a 9kg box home. I'm usually fairly determined when it comes to these things - carried 20kg (about a third of my body weight) of shed roof felting 1.5 miles home on my shoulder two years ago, up a slight incline that I had never noticed until I was weighed down! Unfortunately, I have just walked half a mile with a few groceries and I am done in

I will have to live vicariously through your potting table exploits instead! Maybe I can satisfy myself with the Wilko foldable potting box instead...

Hi quietandy and welcome to the Vine. Your family would be so pleased to know that they had inspired you to garden.

I have to ask - are you really "quiet"? I am but there are some on here who are really noisy, chattering away all the time. Don't know why they can't give us some peace.
