  • growing wisteria up a shed

I have a number of wisteria grown from seed. I thinking about planting one on the allotment, and there are a limited number of places to put it. The obvious one is up the shed. am I asking for trouble?

(reasons for planting it out - (1) I have quite a few of them, (2) decorative, (3) leaves for mulch, (4) you apparently can weave the stalks. I quite like the idea of weaving my own basket in the future.

Oddly I have a couple of wisteria grown from seed too and I've been wondering about planting one to grow up a Liriodendron tree I have. As for the shed idea I suppose it depends on the size of the shed, wisteria can get fairly large.

Indeed - I have a large wisteria in our back garden, hence the seeds.

It's something of a long-term proposition isn't it - they may take 20 years before flowering. Oh well, only another 14 to wait...

:-) I only found out about the 20 year thing several years after I'd grown these wisteria - still I reckon mine are at least 10 years old now, so I'm a bit more than half way - they were sold as being white flowered ones so we may see ....

coincidentally the Liriodendron is supposed to start flowering about 20 years after planting and that has been producing for about 5 years now, so roughly on schedule - its at about 50 feet high, so still a youngster.
