  • bbbbbbrrrrrrrr.....

I have just been out to the back greenhouse to check on the apricot, peach and nectarine potted trees, and give them a handful of BFB, and they are showing signs of flowering, the apricot looks to be a week or two off being in flower and the others not far behind, I had a look at the forecast and they say 4-6 weeks of cold/icy /snowy weather, so it may be like 2016 where spring never came until the second week of June, don't you just love all this global warming..: it seems most of the warming comes from the political windbags who adore the sound of their own voices but I wouldn't trust any of them to breath in and out, but I could put one in the g/house to raise the temp..

Yeah! I had the intention of going down the plot and clearing a few beds! But "Brrrrrrrrr" and the fact the ground is solid! Put me off!

    Maybe tomorrow!

It's cold but it appears to be nothing like winter 1962-63, 1978-89, 1987-87, 1995-96, 2009-10, 2010-11 and some others before I was born, like 1946-47.

Well, it may have similarities to the last two, i.e. the winters in 2010. The Arctic Ocean is currently very warm, i.e. the cold weather's been transferred south.

Apparently in 1947 pneumatic drills were used to harvest root vegetables:

It's probably on balance good for fruit trees which nearly all do better in climates of cold winters and hot summers. There's rather less chance of my apricot trees' blossom being frosted if they don't come out until late March and the weather then warms up in a hurry.

It has got a bit cooler here now, I went down the road on me go faster mobility scooter this morning and the cold split my lip and so strong a wind I had to pull me bobble hat over my eyes to be able to see, too painful otherwise..it should see some of the bugs and slugs though so there is some good to it..if you see a frozen effigy on a scooter, its not Benidorm, its me..

My gh has still yet to go below freezing this winter, yep i know, weird......
                  ref global warming ?

thats the way it will go, ice melts, de salinizes the drift and freeze city, then the warming , only the deniers argue the point ;0

It's been snowing here today for the first time in over 2 years. Quite chilly.

Re global warming: I think the idea is that the overall average temperature of the Earth is apparently rising. It doesn't mean that every spot will be correspondingly warmer.

Had to shovel the snow from the greenhouse door to entre so I could pollenate the peach tree which has a few flowers fully open.

Do you reckon it will work ? Pretty hard to get pollen to take, below a certain temperature.

We stopped having summers in 2006, when they told us we would get summers like that every year, so ,true to form, we haven't had a proper summer since, we did read about heatwaves and droughts but we were never on the delivery list, if you don't go on hols abroad you end up looking like an albino with the constant lack of sun, comes in handy on Halloween though..
