  • Hi, hope you don't mind me popping in

Hi my online name is Greekmaiden (as I love visiting Greece). I have taken early retirement due to ill health, but seem to be getting back on my feet.

I am married to my best friend (who has also taken early retirement) and have been for 35 years. We have 3 grown up children and 6 grandchildren (3 girls & 3 boys) no 7 will arrive in April (ish).

I have joined grow your own as today I have received my letter confirming that my name is now at the top of the allotment list and would I like to take it on board.

Well you could have blown me over with a feather, I only applied in September, so this will be the start of my allotment adventure.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all and hope you will all be able to help and advise me when I get stuck, as I have only placed plants on the windowsill and watered them before now.

Welcome Greekmaiden, fantastic to get a lotty so quickly, and at the start of the growing season. Make yourself at home here, and don't be shy to ask questions, everyone is very friendly.

And take lots of pics of your new lotty - before and after and in-between - we like pics
    Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
    Endless wonder.

        Hello and welcome
I'm afraid we can't offer any ouzo or baklava but the kettles always on for coffee.
We're always happy to chat about gardening and most other things too, so, don't be shy!

Hi and welcome to the vine

Ask away, even things that you think might be simple or daft. We all had to start somewhere and as has already been said they are a friendly bunch on here.

          Grats on the plot.

Thank you all for your lovely welcome.

Sorry for the delay in my response (watching The Durrells on TV).

I am hoping to see the allotment in the next week, they have said in the letter that it has been 'left uncultivated for a short period of time', so I don't know what to expect, so will expect the worst. I will put up photos of my first visit.

I will take you up on the offer of a coffee veggiechicken and you must all call to try some of my Greek salad when I have grown all my own veg.

Congratulations on the new plot :-)
Don’t forget to take some ‘before’ photos when you first visit, so you can see how it changes over the months and seasons ;-)

We have visited Thassos, Kos, Rhodes and Crete on our own and with the children and grandchildren.

We like them all but for different reasons.

Thassos - A small island in Northern Greece - fly to Kavala and then taken by bus to the port, where you are taken over by a opened top ferry, with musicians playing and goats and other animals with the cars in the bottom of the ferry - beautiful green island, very friendly with (or it did not have ) any nightclubs.

Kos - stayed at Lambi - made many a walk in to Kos Town, a visit to Zia is a must, watching the sun go down, over the salt flats watching the pink flamingos. A visit to Nisyros ( an active volcano) the ride there was a breath taking as the views.

Sorry have to go, I will tell you about the others tomorrow. TTFN
