  • Lawns...First cut of the year?

Just had my first wander outside for a few days to pick some daffs and noticed the lawn has grown during the 2 weeks we were away

Anyone else thinking their first cut may not be so long away????

I nearly cut mine about two weeks ago it was nice & dry but then I went indoors & forgot, now the weathers turned to snow it feels like winter it’s out of my mind again. I like the grass a bit long like this,if it’s too short when I walk across to the bird feeders when it’s wet I’d ruin it with foot marks & make mud slides & everything,so it’s good to have thick bits to stand on.

The weather turned at the tail end of last year, so didn't get the last cut done. it is in need of a topping. Gave the mower a quick once over on Saturday, ran it over the Lawn (to see if I could get a cut with the collection bag), grass is the right length, but with Frost and icing sugar, weather has put damper on a topping cut.

Thinking was a cut and a shock would stop it growing too much. Method in my madness.

Hahaha hahaha, you're funny. It's long enough but currently wet through and mainly frozen. The not frozen bits are like a mud bath. It's likely going to have to wait until we'll in to march for everything to combine to allow me time during day light when it's dry to get it done. Don't think I got first one done last year until April.

Its been a funny yearend here.

The ponies over the fence have only just started to be fed - so the grass had still been growing. Blueberry bushes leafing up and there looks to be life in the apple trees...

Can't miss out on the geese - they have been going further afield.... Were not about on the Garden Bird Count

And what snow? Also hearing not that much in Gordon and Buchan coast.

A couple of years back I did the final grass cut on new years eve! This winter it was weeks before that in November and no sign of needing attention yet in 2018.
I could do with some green cuttings for the compost about now though.

At work we cut twice a week all summer and once a week with a cylinder mower all winter.
