  • Do Sparrow Hawks eat Pigeons (I hope)

Next door loves to feed the birds with multiple bird feeders.
Mostly they seem to be frequented by very fat pigeons.
I have had problems with these stripping my brassicas and had to net everything.

Yesterday I spotted what I first thought was a pigeon sitting on the fence eyeing up the bird feeders.
A second glance showed it was not a pigeon but I think it was a Sparrow Hawk.
The wife seemed to think pigeons were too big for them, but I wonder (with fingers crossed)

Yes he will! I've seen one take one in my garden - and he ate it there

Sparrow Hawks will take a lot of different quarry, the larger females(usually browner in colour) will certainly hunt wood pigeons.

Can you get pet Sparrow Hawks on eBay
          And keep them like chickens.

It'll do a good job deterring them, at the very least.

Might have to keep moving this and will likely deter others too.
