  • paving round my shed

get me and my luxury ways...

I have got some second-hand paving slabs to go round my shed. Aim is to keep weed growth down and have some space to store things not on soil.
We aren't allowed to lay concrete at the allotment.

I am currently planning to lay them on the ground with a layer of black polythene underneath them as weed-control.

    Factors I can think of
leveling ground to avoid rocking slabs
ensuring a fall away from the shed to stop rainwater pooling
removing any shapr stones that will tear the membrane

anything else I need to think about?

I put slabs round our shed Mike and didn't bother with a membrane underneath (it made them easier to lay). Weeds aren't a particular problem plus surface water can run off down the gaps.

Might some sand or small aggregate help to level them?

Oh, and congratulations on being able to indulge your luxury ways!

I used coarse sand for path in back garden. Much easier than trying to level soil.

Any surplus has loads of uses like striking cuttings or just digging in.

          My 'Two pennerth' is ,
why spend £ and time on membrane when cheap course sand is just as good, Nowt will grow under your slabs, little in between the gaps and if they do, those weeds are easily controlled ...!! Think Tidy,Do Tidy, Be Tidy...I like Tidy you probably gathered.

I have placed weed membrane under my slabs just to stop the weeds coming up along the gaps, weed membrane allows the water to percolate.
