  • Cut Flowers 2018

Yep, I have decided to inflict you with another year of flowers. My challenge this time is to improve my photography skills. So with this in mind I will aim to take pics once a month of flowers both in the cutting patch and of finished arrangements.

Please feel free to set your own challenges or jump in at any point when you feel like it.

Hi and welcome to the vine. My tips on sea holly - cold, patience and don't buy them from T+M. I still haven't faired very well beyond that though. Feel free to add piccies. The thread is for sharing, helping and encouraging

Good gracious Flowergrower, where do you live? My daffs are not even showing above ground yet. Could you be in deepest, darkest Wales? I know VC has had a daff or two already.

And a warm welcome to the vine on this cold February day

6 daffs at the last count, MH and lots of buds waiting their turn to pop.

              Welcome Flowerpower.

Although I've sworn off buying veg seeds this year, I can't resist buying some seeds, so last week I bought agastache rupestris "Apache Sunset" (what a fabulous name) which is HP, and agastache pallidiflora "Rose Mint", HHA, both of which are good for bees and I'm hoping will look graceful in a vase with other flowers. Nice long flowering period too.

I live in Co Wicklow, east coast of Ireland. I am surprised as well. It's only this variety that's in flower. My other daffs are only 3-4 inches out of the soil.

My Sweetpeas are sprouting in the heated propagator , last year I grew an early crop in the greenhouse border, not made my mind up yet for this year, might have them in a large pot so I can move them outside later maybe.

Does anyone know if I get Honesty to germinate this month would it flower this year? Or is it a strict biennial and will not flower until next year. Thanks in advance.

I let the seed fall naturally and it germinates in the late summer and flowers the following year.

When I tried this it didn't work. I got some lovely big plants come the end of the year though.
Nut why not try it yourself, who knows the weather this year might bring them on?

Got all excited today, tried winter sowing in mineral bottles last October, it has been hit and miss. But today my first Sea Holly has germinated, I did not think it would happen.I think there is another one on the way, I only put 3 seeds in the bottle. Its the little thing that make you smile
