    Grape Vine relocation

    HI Everyone I wonder if someone can help, I have recently inherited a rather large Grape vine and although it has grapes on it at the present I was hoping to move it down to my Allotment, as my new garden is overcrowded enough already.
    But I am unsure what time of year would be best or how much to cut back or what to do with it.

    Any help greatfully recieved and who knows if all goes well maybe start making wine next year.

    You'll need to wait until winter to move it.

    After it all dies back, and you're left with a bare vine (no leaves etc at all) is the best time to move it. This could be about December time!

    I take it it's an outdoor vine?

      I've been told that they have deep taproots and relocation can be a bit of a problem, so I'd be sure to save a few cuttings.

      The other problem you have with them is that they are inclined to bleed to death if not cut in the absolute dead of winter, to ensure that there is no sap movement. I'd also aim to cut as little as possible.

        ....And don't forget to protect them from mould if it's a problem there next year. I haven't had one single grape from 6 vines this year but then, I don't suppose anyone else has either. I wonder if this means 2007 will be a bad year for French wine? Perhaps there will be a market for home made country wines

          Thanks for the advice I have got to much decorating to do before winter anyway but I shall try to move it then.
