Just a query, I have planted in doors and the plants (dahlias, sweetpeas and celeriac) are now ready to go out into my mini wooden greenhouse (panes are a polycarbonate plastic). I know the temperature between the house and the greenhouse is different but what temperature is safe to put them in? With the weather ping ponging like it does and want to know what is the minimum small plants could cope with?

Well I hope the temperature outside is just about right now as all my sweet peas, dahlias, broad beans, asparagus peas etc. are all out in my plastic greenhouse! They all seem to be doing O.K. & I overwintered some other sweet peas in there when it must have gone down to about minus 5.
Into every life a little rain must fall.

Sweet Peas will stand frost no probs. Dahlia's won't like it & I wouldn't have thought Celeriac would either.

You should be OK to put them out now Andrew & if there is a frost forecast, cover the G/house with either 2 or 3 layers of fleece or maybe Bubble wrap at the night time.

I would have thought that any frosts now will just be radiation frosts so anythink between the plants & the sky will do the trick. You could even lay some newspaper over the plants as well for a bit of extra insurance.

I hope that is the case - don't think my plants will last much longer before planting out. I'm trying to harden them off now ready for planting in a couple of weeks

like cotton and sue, I have taken the view that whatever is out in the cold frame or mini greenhouse will have to survive or not... so far have not had any casualties, and in fact things I've planted out recently (eryngium, salvia, scabious, various other perennials) have put a spurt on since being in the ground.
