  • Manure and Manure Tea

Hello. This is my first post and I am a relatively new grower. I have had experience gradually, starting growing carrots and strawberries with the kids and it just gradually expanded from there.

Anyway, enough about my life story. I got some manure from a friend about July time and it is stored in a plastic dustbin about three quarters full I didn't realise it had no drainage and it has filled up to the top now with rainwater. I think I have inadvertently created manure tea.

I was going to bottle it up for use later in the season. What is the dilution rate I should be looking at and does anyone have any advice or tips on this issue.

    Kind Regards......... Rob.

I wouldn't worry too much about the ratio as normally it would be spread on the bed & the rain would just leach through.

we use chicken poo tea - 1 sack of poo soaked in a dustbin of water for several weeks at least then the 'tea' is diluted about 10% tea 90% clean water. but we just use it on the lawn / shrubs - I wouldn't water it on veg or other edibles. Comfrey or nettle tea would be ok on edibles.

Hello Rob and welcome to the vine. Strain it so it doesn't clog your watering can up and fill some 2 Lt pop bottles up. I filled a darlek up with manure and put a plastic sheet under it to flow into a bosh. Your mixture may be quite weak if it's filled with water so it won't need much to dilute. Also try nettle and comfrey teas as well , I don't buy any fertilisers.
