  • Green potatoes

    Hi all,

So I've done something silly... I harvested my beautiful potatoes and all proud of myself unceremoniously dumped them on the windowsill and forgot about them. They are now rather green

Are they only good for the bin or is there a use for them? Could I use them for seed potatoes?

    Thanks

    p.s. I am suitably ashamed I promise

If you can store them somewhere cool & dry, they should be ok to use as seed spuds. I used to save them in a box of wood shavings.

Ideal for seed spuds. I have three open boxes to allow mine to go green initially but darken eventually.

I'd bin them and start again next year .would you be happy eating something grown from something that has gone manky.

They're not manky, they've just been in the light too long to eat. Seed potatoes have been exposed to the light too.

They've hardly gone manky - just green which is a way of making sure that they don't get eaten so that they get a chance to grow next year.

Growing from green spuds is as manky as saving seed from a split tomato.
