  • Help please with 'Frozen' cake

Firstly sorry this has nothing to do with gardening what so ever. I know there are quite a few cake and cakey decorating peeps on here so would be grateful of your help.

My oldest has asked for a 'Go' cake (her way of saying Frozen) for her birthday. So far it will be her usual fav. choc cake with blue icing of sorts. I was going to get some printed sugar paper to put on, but no joy. I did look at pinching them from the cupcake packs you get but they are rather naff. I wondered if anyone has used any where that specialises in cakey things as I am reluctant to buy edible goods from unknown sources. At this rate I will end up painting something on icing, but I know it will end up a bit crude.

Her birthday isn't til Nov. so if anyone has any sources or ideas I would be very appreciative.

    Thank you as always

Have you got a Disney shop where you could buy some little figurines to put on the cake & then she can keep them after & play with them? The cakes in this link look beautiful & achievable.

There is an amazing cake place near me Surbiton Sugarcraft I have used them for templates and the odd block of fondant, but that's it. Depends how much skill in cake decorating you have I guess - I have none whatsoever. Being asked to do that kinda thing would strike terror into my heart.

My friend got some cheap figurines from Morrisons (other outlets are available) for her daughter's Frozen cake.

You know you have to post a pic of the completed cake now, don't you...?

^^^TY both, I never thought of figurines. You are welcome to piccies when it is done, but it won't match any of the ones on JJs link. My heart is there and I am crafty but I do lack skill

This cake just got a lot more adventurous than what I originally had in mind

I so know what that feels like! As an aside, I am carefully blowing out eggs for painting so I have an Easter egg display next year. At least the first two, if not more, will be perfectly awful.

Good luck NFG, my heart goes out to you ......

Have been tasked with cake making duties in the past, and my efforts are woefully lacking. ........... 'Though think I deserved 100% for effort and determination .....
No. Cake making is not a talent of mine and wish you all the very best in your 'Frozen' endeavours ......

Tasted far, far, FAR better than it looked......................(!!! )

That looks like a 'REAL' cake and a half that I would be proud of. Can I put an order in now for next month please?

......yup, it's not a cake NFG, but the thought's there .......

                      I really admire other people's creative cake-making talents. I just don't 'have' it .......

Mum used to bake a lovely Madeira cake or fruit cake on a Sunday for tea, after our paste sandwiches and tinned peaches and Fussels tinned cream. There was always a Victoria sponge cake for birthdays.
I look back now and can see that they were no works-of-art ~ but they tasted delicious and in our eyes they were fabulous ...........

OMG! I would love to make a frozen cake shame all my cakes seem to be for boys! What do you want to do? A castle or a perhaps a princess? If you've got the doll..it's really simple..remember that whatever it looks like she will love it! I so wish I lived nearer...

Bless ya. If you lived nearer I would be scared what I would end up with.

When I started this thread I had in mind a choc cake with blue buttercream dollops with sugar paper pics on and something plaque like in the middle

It is now in my mind a 2 tier cake covered with icing and a blue choc stairwell with a set of toy figures and some edible glitter for good measure (yes girls = glitter, its better than pink )

So I might be on the moan thread a lot on the 17th Nov

I have only ever decorated a cake like this once and it was a World of W@rcr@ft cake about 8 years ago for hubby. Everything was recognisable but it was by no means good

You've got to show us some photos of what you have in mind! Send me a PM if you need help, Ive a chocolate cake recipe that works well for cutting into ...some are better for cutting/shaping than others. Interesting that on the 18th of Nov you may see me moaning as I have to make TWO 18th birthday cakes!

You may not like this idea but .....if you are worried about timing...you could make the cake with a fruit cake mix and decorate over several days(weeks once covered in marzipan - you can then work on it while she is in bed) bring out that cake for her to blow out candles and her "party" cake gets cut up for the family/adults send off the kids that came to her party with some cut cake sliced from a tray bake covered in blue/white icing and a ton of glitter.
