  • Courgette Roulette

Hi I planted some squash seeds - 10 Courgette 5 Rolet 5 summer squash (not sure of the true name but its a bush type with small yellow round but squished fruits, similar to petty pan, i think lol )

When they were still in the 'blowaway' greenhouse with seed leaves only, it 'blewaway' lol so i have no idea which is which

A few, maybe 5, have a distinctive silvery leaf and are pretty big but none seem to have the climbing strand things that I imagine the Rolet would have as it is a climbing variety.

Any way to identify the differences at this stage? As they are barely starting to flower but have healthy big arms.

Just to complicate the matter further, they are all in different areas in a range of pots and growbags lol

I will be able to add photos next week, phone broken.

If anyone has any tips in the meantime they would be muchly appreciated

    Thanks x

I'm playing this game too, with a diverse range of squash, pumpkin, courgette. Im hoping the ornamental gourd that disappeared has died rather than been mis-identified

With 21 plants out already and a similar number still to go I'm glad I've managed to keep their plant labels with mine so far.

Not growing Role - may have to put it on the list for next year. The description I read say that they may be encouraged to climb which may mean that you can tie them up to supports rather than them using tendrils. If they do grow tendrils it may be too early for them to form.

Are there any differences in the leaf sizes?

            Blimie Jay-ell!

What will you do with the fruit of forty odd courgette plants?
We'll never even find you under all them

I'm growing five and know I'll have to give half away. The family over the road with six vegetarian teenagers are the only people glad about it....my husband nearly divorced me when I said I'd grown that many

                  Thanks everyone

There are huge differences in the leaf sizes but it could well be because they're all in completely different things lol

Thank you for that info on the rolet thingy lol I think it will be best to get the pics first because , as you know, i have twenty lol

p.s. a fair few are still in their teeny pots , not sure how they're still alive poor things, but they're getting potted up tomorrow and once i know which is which all my friends will have at least one Cuorgette plant lol

p.p.s. I just remembered I also have 2 tombocini's growing well and i have that james wong veg pack from suttons on the way muuuuh lol - if you haven't seen it, I found a post on here with a code and you get 10 plants, tomato trombocini chilli and petty pan- 3 3 2 2- instead of 19.99 it's 1.99 plus £4.99 p&p -------- small garden, all pots, not much space left lol - just wondering, have I finally gone mental? answers on a postcard x

Could you let them grow on a bit more, maybe in bigger pots, & see which ones start trailing more than the others? Then plant them on whatever frame you're using if planning on growing all the role together? Or plant them all out any which way & train up individual wigwams when the trailing habit starts to show. Can already see the difference in habit between my courgette zephyr which is quite bushy & the turks turban/spaghetti squash which spread out more.

Well they're not all courgettes, there's a few patipan and some squash as well.

I can always leave some to turn into marrows.

Jay-ell I hope you have a lot of neighbors who like to leave their car rear windows down so their cars don't get too hot;because cars with rear windows down is only place to dispose of excess courgettes when you start getting a crop, since neighbors will have glut too.
the first year I ever veg gardened I had 7 courgette plants and over 70 courgettes.
no more then 3 to 4 again in one season.
