No idea about the Oca Brownie but i do have some experiance with cold turkey
After i fractured my spine a few years back i decided to come off Tramadol myself, big mistake, doctor called me a total fool and to start them again immediatley and pop in for a chat to work outa coming off plan.

I really felt for those heroin addicts etc who try to break free but fail to do it, i was in a mess after just one night off prescription drugs, good luck to anyone in that situation.

My sympathies. My drug is Tramadol and after running out one weekend I was a wreck.

I've never grown them, but I tend to start most things in pots (except carrots and parsnips) in order to regulate and protect new starters. Oh and see your GP about reducing painkillers!

Yep...last week I missed the chemist and so had no BuTrans morphine patches over the easter weekend..not a mistake I plan to make again.
And who knew there were so many of us legal junkies on here?

As for the oca...tough as old boots!
When I grew them I just bunged them straight in the ground and forgot all about them until winter. The leaves look just like clover (only on taller stems) and you don't harvest until the leaves die back, some time in November.

Oca's not frost hardy, at least, the foliage isn't, the tubers tend to be OK underground. I start mine in pots so they can get a bit of growth on before the last frost, and also because they do tend to start trying to sprout early.

Apparently it doesn't really affect yield if you just plant 'em out later though, so either way should work.

If you treat them as potatoes, you won't go wrong.
