I agree with Fishpond. Treat them like you would a bare root tree -which of course has a bare root rootstock on one end of it

If you can't plant them keep the roots cool and DAMP. Surrounded by damp rags or newspaper. I've just received my order of rootstocks for this year and they're still in their bundles just shoved in big tubs of old compost till I graft them. Not as good as planting them but they're on my fairly sheltered patio which protects them a bit too.

I agree. Get them in the ground. You can always move them later

I did a bit of apple tree grafting last year (m27) and I potted mine up. Then when the time for grafting arrived it was much easier to do this as you can work with them on a bench. You can then easily plant them out the following season once the grafts are strong and growing. Good luck with you grafting.
