I tried growing these this year, but they just kept bolting. Ive read you can sow them now as an over wintering veg and that you harvest them next spring. Has anyone done this before?

Not done it, but do over winter a fair few brassicas. I assume they mean growing like spring cabbages? If so, may be a bit late to sow now as they'd need to get quite a bit of growth on before the nights draw in further. What does the supplier suggest?

I have no idea what the supplier says. I ordered the seeds on amazon because they were cheap. They just came in a little foil bag with "Evesham Brussel Sprouts" stuck on.
I read somewhere online that they can be sown in the autumn ready for a spring/early summer crop.
I'll try it, if it fails I havn't lost nowt haha.Comment

My packet of Evesham says sow in spring. My plants are now nice and big (a bit too big to be honest!) and I'm looking forward to some sprouts for Christmas.
The seed packet doesn't mention an autumn sowing option. It'll be interesting to try; if they don't bolt in Spring you might get a crop by August I guess.Comment

This website thinks its ok..."Sow in spring to harvest in winter or in autumn for harvest in late spring to autumn." There's some helpful info on here...

Well, i have just sown some of these in my garden to see what happens. That website says sow in October so with it being the 1st today, I've just done it. Anyone else giving these a go at over wintering?
Fingers crossed and i'll report back with their progress or non progress over the coming weeks and months.Comment

Have you got some netting or some type of protection from birds & insects,they love seedlings. I've found a packet so I'l sow some very soon into pots outside,I don't know where to plant them,probably the raised bed once it's cleared out.Originally posted by Scoot View Post

No not got any netting up. The birds don't bother my seedlings at all. I feed the birds with seeds, peanuts and kitchen scraps every day so i have never had a problem with them eating my little seedlings.
Once the seedlings appear, i'll scatter some organic slug pellets though to keep the slugs at bay.Comment
