    Excess raspberry canes

    Hello

    I've just been tending to my autumn raspberry canes and have clipped back those that have strayed from the main plant.

    Can I grow a few in big pots with canes for a nice effect around the patio...and if I can...do I snip them at a particular junction on the cane itself before potting?

    I just chop them down, take a few lower leaves of and plant very deep in the pot. Cut the top of the stem off. Although, I don't think they will be happy in a pot for long. They are really tall plants too, so if you do want to give them a go in a pot it will need to be a big one and perhaps only 2 or 3 canes?
    I don't grow in pots much because I'm not a fan of watering. Someone who grows fruit in tubs may be along soon with better info

      My tub based raspberries are romping away. Watering is a pain but they are supplementary ones to the ones in the fruit cage so I'm not too fussed about their survival!

      I did as you said, when pruned, I stuck them in the ground and watered well. The 5 canes I bought magically turned into 10 and most survived!

        they will be okay in a big pot for2-3yrs,we have just picked a 3rd crop from some I potted up for someone who never picked them up, as we have had a dismal summer they ripened slowly and it seems to make the flavour more intense..
