    Fruit Cage

    I'm looking to add a walk in fruit cage to my plot ,its going to be 5 meters wide and between 3 and 5 meters long ,depending on my final planting plan.

    Roughly how many raspberry canes ,blueberry bushes ,gooseberry plants would be needed to create rows 5 metres long ,which im hoping will eventually be hedges .

    And what is the most cost effective way of achieving this ?

    any links to threads ,or information would be much appreciated.

      I'm confused!! Do you intend growing, raspberries, blueberries and gooseberries in rows each making a "hedge".
      Blueberries have different soil requirements to the other 2.

        Thanks mally i will have a read

        VC- yeah they will all be hedges (hopefully ) i eat a huge amount of berries

        The blueberries will be in there own raised bed within the fruit cage so there soil requirements can be met.

          I have 5 gooseberries in a 4.8m bed. They are a spectacularly vigorous unknown variety and are now joining up with each other. Don't know about the others - my raspberries are at 45cm spacing and will eventually join I imagine - I reckon about 10 canes for a 5m row, unless you want growth to the borders, in which case, 11.

            My currants, gooseberries etc are all planted about 5' away from a neighbouring plant, including the row of raspberries. This enables me to get round them for harvesting as well as allowing air to circulate. I dream that one day I'll get a huge fruit cage round it all
