  • Please help why can't I stop?

Evening folks, why didn't anyone warn me gardening can be so addictive.
I bought my first fruit tree about 5 weeks ago with all attentions on having only one tree for our garden. We now have 3 apple trees, 1 plum tree, 3 cherry trees, & 3 blueberry bushes,

Today has been a nice day here in aberdeen. I did wake up thinking I might have a look around a local garden centre but quickly talked myself out of that idea telling myself to behave( I don't need anything)

After breakfast my wife suggests we have a ride out to Banchory (2 massive garden centers there I'm thinking to myself)

Any way we ended up visiting both centers and not buying a thing apart from coffees & cakes. (we had a great day)

Head off to asda do the weekly shop and head off back home all is good.

Got home and my wife notices we had forgot to buy a couple of things so I said I would go back to asda alone buy the things we needed and come back home.

Anyway to cut the story short I ended up visiting another garden centre (alone) I had to pass to get to our local asda. And coming home with another apple tree (wife not happy at all)

Well after a stern talking to I'm now officially barred from all garden centres,

But at least Louise (my wife) has cheered up a little bit. I ordered a Indian for tea and it seams to have done the job. & she has had a laugh about it and said its a nice tree. (It's a apple discovery on M27)

          Wellcome, I feel your pain.

My name is Bill and I am a gardenaholic. Our local GA group have been a big help ,Whenever I am in the grips of online purchasing of "stuff" a quick phone call will see several members at my door helping me to resist. Of course its the family that suffer, my wife begs me to take off my wellies in bed for instance.

Haha.....worst bit about it is I don't for the life of me know why I even went into the last gc like I said I was on my way to asda and before I knew what was going on I was indicating right and pulling into the gc car park.

Its as if there is some mystical force pulling me in.

Don't worry about it. Its quite normal.
Every time I go to the supermarket, I detour into the garden centre opposite to see what's been reduced. You'll soon be as "normal" as the rest of us

                  SEEDS!

                  Carrie mentioned SEEDS!

Oh nooooooo.....ng hasn't realised there's a silent impulse purchase available almost everywhere you look! ( and that you can hide them in a box- or should I say lovingly arrange, sort and then rearrange?)

Shhhhh.....no one else mention them...he may not have noticed

Of course there's also the fact that you don't have to go to a garden centre to be tempted as various super markets also have deals on. Did you know that Aldi have fruit trees so buying a pint of milk isn't safe.

I am a bugger at wondering off leaving the OH in the supermarket to go look at gardening stuff. He just leaves me to it.

I think this is why he is glad that there is a fish shop in our garden center. He looks at fish while i look at plants

I have plenty of seeds. Went threw my box to sort seeds out by sow by date and i found i have quite a few that is pass theres. But i just dont have it in me to get rid of them, so back in the box they go!

Garden purchases can be justified, honestly, sort of, well.....

There is not wasting money in the pub.
                          Better tasting food.
                          Saving on bills.
Trees pay for themselves over time.
                          Health and excercise benefits.
                          They look pretty
                          Social and community aspects.

The list goes on. If none of these work, your wife will be getting alot of takeaway

I agree it is additive like you is my first year. Never thought it would be and even the OH has said before now," why don't you plant me in the garden I may get more attention"(it is tongue in cheek I hope). Don't talk to me about seeds, every time I read GYO mag I must have a go at that must get the seeds! Box getting very full so thinking where can I grow things, dig up more garden!

                              Do you use ebay......

I find ebay can be a problem! , not so much now I am in Bulgaria as people will not post to Bulgaria.....

On ebay.....and watching TV gardeners world comes on, you see something on tv...you search it on ebay its delivered a few days later....,
Middle of the night I just have a look......and end up with all sorts of plants, not sure what variety....no problem buy them both....few seconds and its done.....no driving to shop time to change your mind!
One time someone reduced the apple trees to £6 with £6 p&p but every extra tree free , so buying one.....was silly! , buying 6, was £1 each delivery.......
Living off grid and growing my own food in Bulgaria.....
