  • Another raspberry question

I've cut down my autumn raspberries and put a good mulch of well rotted manure on them.....feeling quite proud when someone walks past and said raspberries don't like being mulched have I made a booboo or were they talking rubbish.......

I hope they are talking rubbish as I have recently done exactly the same....................Did they say why they don't like manure or is it just mulch in general?

I always understood they were shallow rooting and like a cool root run, which mulching would provide. Have been mulching raspberries every Autumn for over ten years and get good crops.

          Mulch mine every year too.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'd love to know what the reasoning was behind the comment.

P.S. In addition to the normal couple-of-inches of well rotted manure, which I apply annually, this year I am going to apply a deep layer of straw so that it becomes a no-weeding-bed

I think they're talking rubbish too.
...............but, could it be because raspberries are shallow rooted and a decent mulch would make them deeper rooted?
