  • Pinkcurrent - container or in the ground?

    Hello

I'm thinking of investing in a 'Gloire de Sablon' but have limited space to plant it in the ground where the soil is heavy clay, pH about 7 - 8.

Would it do well in a container? Apparently, black currents are happy in a pot but I cannot find anything pertaining to pink.

    Can anyone advice?

    Thanks

Pink currants are more like Redcurrants and whitecurrants than blackcurrants.
You can grow almost anything in a pot, as long as the pot is big enough and you look after its water and feeding needs afterwards.

Thanks, Veggiechicken. I shall give it go, see what happens.

Hi Miss Mouse, would you care to share where you plan on buying the plant? I've been in the market for one for some time but I can only find them for around the £18.99 mark and most of the time my finances won't stretch that far

          Pink current shop

Certainly, I've ordered mine from ebay (hope this does not break the advertising rules) for £6.49; 1 year old plant.

I know it is a risk but I'm working on the assumption that I may kill it anyway the first time I prune it, being a beginner.

          Hope this helps.

I doubt that it will be large enough to need pruning in its first year so you have plenty of time to read up on the technique!!
Prune it like a redcurrant - not a blackcurrant.

Thanks Miss Mouse, I had already looked on ebay but I now realise that it's listed under pinkcurrant, if you type in pink currant it doesn't bring up the one for £6.49. Just in case anyone else is looking too.

My pink currant is here Miss Mouse, thanks for the heads up about where to get it. It is healthy and starting to grow already, how is yours? Bargain for £6.49, I could have bought three for the price that one of the big retailers were charging for one. Can't wait to munch them now
