I have a problem with growing leeks I have tried for 2 years and all o get is leeks the size of pencil.
Is there anyone able to help?

How do you grow them? Do you feed them at all? -

Leeks are gross feeders so need copious amounts of feed in the bed. I dig in heaps of fym along with granular fertiliserwhich seems to do the trickComment

Last year I had a secondary crop of leeks that were stunted. My problem was that i planted them a bit late (April) and kept them in a shallow seed tray for a couple of months before i planted out. I suspect the shallow seed tray caused the problems, but am happy to take advice. My first crop however were fine, and they were planted in six inch deep pots, in Feb/March, and had a good length of white stem by the time the were planted out.
This year I have started two varieties of leeks already in a deep dedicated trough. I hope they'll be fairly substantial before they go in the patch in June.Comment
