  • Seeds Trays for Free - Some recycling Advice Required

Now I have retired I have real time to think about what I spend on gardening and what options lend themselves best for recycling. I noticed that the trays used to pack beef and chicken are almost identical to half sized seed trays. The big challenge I have is making drainage holes. Using a knife just causes the plastic to split. Anyone have a great way for making drainage holes in recycled plastic trays?

How about a scissor snip along the bottom corner edges? Two close together and the middle pushed in could work?

Have you checked whether your local garden centre has a pot recycling space? It's handy for getting a lot of pots for free.

Something hot, like a soldering iron?, or perhaps a pre-heated skewer?

I use a corkscrew, or a bradawl. You dont need many holes or big ones if they are used for seed sowing.

I makebelieve that I am character in a crime thriller - the murderer in fact. I pick up a little, filleting knife and stab the seed tray multiple times with as much force as I can manage.
Gets a lot of nastiness out of my system and gives me a holey seed tray.

                    I know the feeling!!
We did a murder mystery game once..and the dead character was stabbed to death ....with an icicle....which had consequently melted before the investigators got there!!

I use a metal skewer heated on the gas ring to put 6/8 holes in the base, the clear trays make great little propagator lids as well..

A wool needle. Put the pot onto something firm but soft like a folded towel and jab it through.

stab and twist, this worked very well with the chuck a way placy cups, put the cup bottom onto something solid with a space or whole in it,this way i do 3 maximum at a time, using an old knife for that job,
