could it be a snowberry? sorry, dont know what the proper name is. might not be though, because looking at mine they are a bit more droopy down than you are describing...

Hi thanks for that, I yahood for pictures and although similar, the branches didnt have many (if any) leaves viasble and where a brighter colour of redish purple

but quite possibley related

Hi Dragonz,
If you don't think it's a snowberry (Symphoricarpos albus), try yahoo-ing a pic of Gaultheria mucronata "Wintertime". It too fits the description you've given.

Hi Dragonz,

Dig a big hole and fork in loads of compost & grit tht will improve they drainage. Geoff Hamilton used to do this do grow pinks at Barnsdale and you could have made bricks with his soil

Hi folks
on the subject of snow berry- whats the best way to get rid of it.
I have loads of it running wild in the woods next to the garden and its leaking in under the fence and through the dry stone dykes. Don't want to get rid of it all, just tame it a bit, and, keep it away from the garden area.

You could dig down at the outside of your fence and install a barrier of some sorts.

We have just put up a fence to keep out genetically modified bunnies (well not quite!!) but had to support a path raised 2ft above our plot too.
We managed to get hold of corrugated metal sheets, used on roofs etc, which is 2ft by 6ft and I'm sure if you used this buried below the fence line you'd have no problems with invasive root systems!

No idea how this plant spreads, but if it has invasive roots, then this can only help.We are hoping this is the end to the convolvulus and scutch spreading onto our plot from next door!
