  • companion planting for carrots

    Hi
I've never grown carrots before but am really worried about carrot fly. Does any one know of a flower or other veg I can grow alongside the carrots to help deter the flies?
    Thanks

I have tried onions and garlic but have still had some roots affected. The only 100% way to keep them out is to use enviromesh or equivalent and keep it secure as they will get in the smallest gaps.

It really is heartbreaking to have to chuck most of a row of carrots onto the compost bin because they have been "had" by the fly.

Try growing a fly resistant strain of carrot like Flyaway or Resistafly. These are both available from www.thompson-morgan.com
