The jars are made by Kilner and have a metal lid with spring type fastening.

If you accept that they aren't genuine Kilner but of a similar design IKEA is far cheaper:

      500ml - 80p
      1000ml - £1.25
      1.8L - £2.00
      2L - £3.00

      They call them KORKEN.

But compared to the genuine Kilner price from Lakeland Plastic your prices are good.

I found the IKEA ones weren't water / air tight so not good for preserving

The bonus of the Kilmer jars is that they are also heat resistant. Some of the cheaper ones crack when filled with hot contents or put into a pressure cooker. different quality of glass. Le parfait are similar quality to Kilmer.....but expensive, even over here!

I bought some small killer bottles from Wilcos last year...can't remember the price...but it wasn't very much.

Can anyone tell me part of the Kilner Jar I can keep once used? Obviously the jar itself but am I right in saying you can reuse the screw bands but not the lid seals?

You are quite right Jay, the lid seals need replacing each time.

I too have found (like Alison said) that the ikea ones are not air/water tight and therefore unsuitable for preserving.
Please don't use them for anything that could give you botulism!

I get my kilners from Wilkos or from Dunelm mills (who do a much bigger range for very similar prices).

As an aside, if anyone knows a cheap place for kilner replacement seals I'd be grateful....they get dearer every year!
