  • cheapo chicken soup.

Aldi do a pack of 5 chicken thighs for £1.99

So with a sharp knife I trimmed off the bone leaving 5 nice chicken steaks.
I used them in a curry, just a simple jar.

However the bones still had some chicken bits on them.
Fried an onion with the chicken skins for the fat !
Fed the chopped up skins to the birds !
Boiled bones for 30 mins with a fried onion + 2 chicken stock cubes, salt pepper.
Fished out the bones to cool.
Added some small pasta shells and cook 10 min more.
When bones cooled picked off chicken and added back to soup.
I store it in old plastic milk cartons, freezes well in these.
So about 4 servings of yummy soup and two servings of curry for a base price of £1.99

    Anyone better this ?

As Mr Teez does not like meat served on the bone, whenever I roast a chicken I take all the meat from the bones and put them straight into a plastic bag along with skin, chicken fat,and any onions or herb sprigs that I've used in the roasting tin. The bag of bones then goes in the freezer until I have four or five of them. I then bung everything in my jam pan, cover with water and bring the whole lot to the boil, then simmer for half an hour or so. After straining and cooling, any fat is easy to remove and the resulting stock is the perfect base for any soup or sauce - and is strongly flavoured enough not to need any stock cubes!

Whenever we have a Roast, the bones/carcass gets boiled up to make stock.

Plastic milk bottles are a great favourite for freezing purposes here, too. They have been known to split along the seam though, so we don't overfill them, and always remember to stand them in a bowl or saucepan, for defrosting.
