  • Someone appears to have pinched my allotment :(

Hello to all I am new to the site and a new allotment holder, having only picked up the keys to my plot yesterday so forgive me if this is the wrong place to post

You're probably wondering about my heading... Yesterday after collecting the keys I went to the site to have a look only to be told that it was someone else's plot! The council have no record of anyone being on it. It was handed back by the previous tenant at the beinning of august. I have the tenancy, I signed it yesterday. I was on the waiting list for years and the only person so next in line. It would seem that my plot has an unofficial tenant and he's clearly done a lot of work and has erected a greenhouse and rotavated it. He's clearly not going to want to move now.

The council think that someone has either taken on an extra plot or that someone has oven their mate a key.

Has anyone had any experience with this type of scenario?

    Thanks

I can see I have posted this in the wrong place entirely. Is there a way of getting it moved?

      A nice mod may oblige....

Welcome Methe ...not had any experience of that as we have our own committee that deals with all lottie tenancies. Don't think it matters what work the usurper has done they obviously have no right to be there and should be asked/told by the council to sling their rotovator.....

Back to the council and tell them what you have told us.

I have the council are looking in to it and will let me know what they find out tomorrow or Friday. It doesn't seem to be an administration issue just someone being cheeky as far as we can tell at the moment.

Can a person keep an allotment they have cultivated without an agreement? The council were non committal about me keeping it even though i've signed the tenancy agreement. I'm a bit peeved.

It seems strange someone would put so much effort into something they know they could lose eventually, I bet the councils cocked up

Maybe the Council, can find this'person' another plot, and you can have the one that is supposed to be yours, you would then benefit from the work he has done, unofficially, if you see what I mean. On our site there are a couple of plots that have never been worked, (despite waiting lists)

In The black country near Halesowen. I've not paid rent yet, they are going to invoice me. The lady from the council went though the paperwork with me while I was on the phone. It has definitely not been let by them, there is no tenancy agreement (apart from mine and the chap who had had it untill aug since the dawn of time) and there have been no payments received for it.

                        Thanks for all the welcomes

Hello, and welcome to the Madhouse!

Sadly, I can't help either, but sounds like a Council Up-cock to me, too. Hope it's sorted to your satisfaction.

Maybe the 'unofficial tenant',has just worked the wrong plot! If so he's not going to be very happy! Just don't think he wud have erected a greenhouse, if it wasn't his plot, wud he? Maybe previous tenant left it?

The Council's do make mistakes, they mistakenly offered me a second one, about a year after getting mine. Am sure they will soon sort it for you.

Have the council given the squatter the wrong plot number?
Is the squatter supposed to be on the site somewhere or is he a complete unknown?
