  • for the horticulturally challenged...

I planted my last 10 spuds yesterday. I have had 3 rows in the ground for a month already, cant tell if what's coming up is weeds or spuds - so my wizard wheeze, and possible tip for the horticulturally challenged like me who dont think they'll recognise their future crop was to..... plant a purple lolly stick with every spud!!! looks quite pretty too, but hopefully it means I will be able to weed around the place without worrying that I am pulling spuds not weeds.

F&V - do still take care with your weeding as the shoots can come up a fair way from the central point of the spud, especially if growing on a ridge. If in doubt, leave it!!! Good idea though!

nicos - good point, so far I have weeded out loads of celandines, if in doubt it is staying for the mo!
