  • Turnips kill couch grass !!

    Apparantly, this is so

Has anybody heard of this? And has anybody tried it?

If the seed was broadcast over seveal square metres how quick would the ground clear do you think??
Gulp ... I loved my vegetable garden, so here is my sad ballad:
I nutured it for months and ate it in one salad. - Arnotd Zarett

Hmmm...i've not heard this before - very interesting. Perhaps its an exudate given off by the turnip roots? in which case it might be common to other brassicacae species. where did you find this info?

or are you having me on here??
There's vegetable growing in the family, but I must be adopted

I was on another forum also read it on a nursery website. It definitely has something to do with the Companion Planting aspect ... or rather the reverse of it !! The 'nips excreet something the grass doesn't like !!

Was just wondering if anybody had tried it ... can see I will have to !

I will give it ago on the plot where i am going to put my strawberries later, when they have finished in the growbags. Would be good not to have it to fight with in the strawberry bed.

Seems there is an old wives tale saying turnips will rid you of couch grass. If you google turnips and couch grass it will come up. Some people saying it works, others saying rubbish. I think it if worked we would all have known about it before now.
